Sand Rivers is a truly wonderful lodge, up there with our favourites in Africa. The stunning location, sublime service and expert guiding combine perfectly.

Accommodation at Sand Rivers is in spacious open-fronted cottages made of stone and thatch, and raised up on the banks of the Rufiji with amazing views out across the river.

There are five standard rooms and two suites along with a one-bedroom, private house - The Rhino House.

The standard rooms all have spacious, open, en-suite bathrooms, with flush toilets and powerful showers. The two suites have their own private lounge area, and plunge pools set into the main deck.

The Rhino House is a private and exclusive one-bedroom 'house' located near to the main lodge. Its the perfect private hideaway where meals are served in your own dining area if you wish and you have your own small pool.

The lodges main mess and dining area is set close to the river and is a generous space.  It is grand yet cosy, the atmosphere is familiar, and the service is excellent.

The boat trip from the lodge to Stieglers Gorge is stunning and a perfect way to start the day with a picnic breakfast on the banks of the river. Walking safaris are another highlight and the guides will arrange long or short walks to suit you - long walks tend to start in the early morning with shorter walks before sunset.

Fly Camping is a highly recommended part of any extended trip to Sand Rivers. The shared fly camps are set up on a sand bank, or close to one of the lakes, and consist of spacious mosquito-net tents with comfortable safari bedrolls. There is a bucket shower - with hot water - and a short-drop toilet set up just behind camp. 

Sand Rivers is a superbly located and luxurious lodge whilst the quality of guiding is some of the very best you will find in Tanzania.
