Skeleton Coast Research Camp is located in the northern region of the incredible Skeleton Coast Park private concession and offers the ulitimate remote wilderness experience.

Skeleton Coast Research Camp is located very close to the more upmarket Skeleton Coast Camp and is set up as a simple lower cost option predominantly for group safaris.

The accommodation tents are simple and traditional with comfortable furniture and small ensuite bathroom tents. There is also a small "mess" tents used for serving meals alongside the campfire. This is a basic camp set up but perfectly adequate in order to gain access to this incredible area without paying top price.  

The quality of the guiding is excellent and this is very important in such a unusual environemt. Activities include full-day nature drives or walks with a picnic lunch, returning to camp in the evening. Due to the pristine nature of this area, many parts are accessible only on foot as vehicle tracks can damage the environment.

Other excursions include visits to the clay castles of the Hoarusib River, Rocky Point, the roaring dunes, lichen fields, Cape fur seal colonies and Himba villages.

There are areas of water which attract wildlife so you may see desert-adapted elephant, gemsbok, springbok, giraffe, ostrich, brown hyaena, Hartmann's mountain zebra and occasionally lion and cheetah.

This is a truly incredible place - we think it is one of the most extraordinary experiences in Africa.
