Sossusvlei

Sossusvlei is an area of classic desert scenery offering one of the iconic images of Namibia - huge red dunes with sharp curving ridges dropping down onto flat gravel pans.

The Namib-Naukluft Park and its corridor of dunes is a photographer's paradise with Dune 45 having particularly visual impact. It is also possible to climb to the top of some of them including "Big Daddy" which is the biggest and looks down over the fascinating Dead Vlei.

Dead Vlei and Hidden Vlei are lesser known highlights within the park - old pans which are barren except for just the skeletons of old Acacia trees standing upright from the ground.

A very exhilirating option is to take an early morning ballooning flight over the desert and view the sunrise over the dunes. Other actitivites such as quad-biking and horse riding are available.
